Important Reminders

Important Information

Welcome to Second Grade!!!  I have a lot of very important things to share with you.  Please be sure to read all of the following information to ensure a successful year for your child.  Please keep this letter for future reference!!!!!!

Our school day begins at 8:00 with the tardy bell ringing at 8:05.  Instruction begins promptly at 8:00.  It is VERY important that your child is on time each day.  Our school day ends with the Primary building bell ringing at 3:05.

Checkout:  If you need your child for any reason, please go to the office BEFORE coming to the room for them.  You must check them out through the office even if you need them five minutes early in the afternoon.

Lunch:  If you would like to have lunch with your child, please check in at the office and get a Visitor’s pass.  This is for the safety of the children.  We leave our hallway for lunch at 10:45.  Lunchtime is 10:50-11:15, with recess from 11:45-12:15.  Our afternoon recess is from 2:20-2:35.

Activity Schedule:

Tuesday- GT 9:45-10:15; Library 1:35-2:20

Wednesday-  Computer Lab 1:50-2:20; PE 2:40-2:55

Snack:  Each day we will have an afternoon snack at 2:20 during last recess.

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to send a daily snack for your child.

Birthdays:  If you wish to celebrate your child’s birthday at school, this can be done during our snack recess (2:20-2:35.)  However, due to the State’s Health and WellnessProgram, you can only send “healthy treats.”  Examples would be fruit snacks and/or boxed fruit juices. Please let me know a day in advance.  Please do not send birthday invitations to school unless you are inviting the entire class.  We want to protect the feelings of each child.

Parental Notes:  I must have a note dated and signed by the parent or guardian every time for the following situations:

  1. After an absence.
  2. When prescription medicine is to be taken during school hours. (Including the dosage and time.)
  3. If your child is to go home a different way or with a different person than the usual. WITHOUT A NOTE or Phone call from you, YOUR CHILD WILL BE SENT HOME AS USUAL.

Homework:  Everyday your child will be bringing home their “PAWS” folder.  Please be sure to look inside this folder.  It will include your child’s homework for the day and any notes that were sent home that day.  Monday-Thursday your child will have homework.  This is to be done by your child and returned to school in the folder the next day.  Your child will be bringing home books or other materials to read at home.  This is to increase his/her reading skills.  Again, please be sure to return whatever is sent home for homework the next day.  I know homework can be cumbersome to the child as well as the parent, but I strongly encourage you to be an active parent in your child’s work.  This will only keep you up to date on your child’s progress.

Tests:  Your child will be having weekly Word Study (Spelling) test and Math test whenever we complete a unit. Word Study test and Fluency Checks are usually administered on Friday.  I send the word study word patterns home on Friday and they are tested on the next Friday.  I put all information about TESTING date on the Weekly Newsletter.  That way you know what your child will be doing each week.
